Al might be a fascinating tool, but it doesn't look you in the eyes when the scene finally clicks, it doesn't laugh at the absurdity of a 4 a.m. shoot, and it certainly doesn't have the messy, unpredictable magic of a real actor breathing life into a role. Film is a conversation, a symphony of minds colliding, ideas sparking, emotions bouncing back and forth.
The most enriching moments in filmmaking happen when someone surprises you - when an actor brings a nuance you never imagined, when a cinematographer catches a light shift you didn't plan, when an editor cuts against the rhythm but somehow makes it better.
